K-ON 12 – Finalizing Yui x Azunyan… but wait… there's another one?!

You are in the presence of Mugi-ojou-sama

You are in the presence of Mugi-ojou-sama.

[POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS – YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED]

And here it is, what you’ve all been waiting for, K-ON 12 : Finale.  Or not…  Apparently, these nice people at KyoAni have an extra ep coming out after this one, which makes me wonder, didn’t they manage to get enough fanservice in already?  Why do they even need what they themselves call “extra” episode?  Well anyway… it seems I’ll have to review this thing one more time.  Now HOPEFULLY that extra thing will be pure fanservice and no more K-ON emodrama.  Basically what I want to see is some Mugi, preferably some Mugi excessive fanservice.  Seriously, while Mugi isn’t my favorite girl, she got the least focus through this whole thing and generally deserves her own fanservicey episode at least.  Since she’s Mugi, yuri fanservice is also encouraged.

Ok, let’s see, the fake K-ON finale…  It was already shown (more or less) that Yui caught a cold.

That's one weird dream... Where's my MugixYui yuri?

That's one weird dream... Where's my MugixYui yuri?

We’re talking about a nasty cold here.  I mean if you’re Yui, and you dream of Mugi, and it doesn’t end in some hot yuri action but instead her eyebrows turn to food, you must be fighting for your life.

Yui is so hot... literary...

Yui is hot... literary...

As always, it falls on Ui to tend to her onee-chan.  With the festival being really close, Yui getting sick isn’t helping the group.  Ui doesn’t rest though and thinks of plans to get her sister better.

I don't know... She's kinda stupid and she caught a cold... What makes you think you can remove an Act of God?

I don't know... She's an idiot and she caught a cold... What makes you think you can cancel an Act of God?

Yup, good question.

... which then poses the naughty question of exactly HOW... cause I can think of many more than one ways

I concur. In every sense, too.

The light music club (now the After School Teatime band) is pondering on the cause of the cold (although I think the above screenshot explains the situation better than perfectly).  Here’s Ui’s argument:

And here's the problem...

And here's the problem...

Apparently, Yui liked the yukata so much that she was wearing it all day, which caused her to catch a cold.  That’s according to Ui cause we all know Ritsu gave it to her, probably a la episode 10.

High treason!

High treason!

Of course, Azusa will not betray her uber Yui-senpai so easily, even if it’s shyMoe’s suggestion.  Do not give in to the dark side, Azunyan!

Yui DOES appear however…

Well, that does sound like lazy Yui

Yui-senpai is back! Time for some intense... practice...

>_> Oi... Yui was always a genius! A lazy genius, but a genius no less.

That DOESN'T sound like lazy Yui... But then, Yui is a genius anyway.

There's something rotten in the land of yuri...

There's something rotten in the land of yuri club...

And yes, that wasn’t Yui. It was pretty close though, I mean, it sounds almost identical, it looks almost identical, it’s yuri for onee-chan, yeah, it could have been Yui.

Nutcase-sensei knows... I wonder if their softness is identical though... *ponders*

Et tu, Ritsu?!

Et tu, Ritsu?!

Unfortunately for all your traitors the real Yui does appear, with a real, running nose!  Yui knows she doesn’t have much time left…

I wish I could see this, too, before the end...

And so… Yui is a goner… Ok, leaving the drama sarcasm aside, Mio tells Yui to rest until the festival, after Azunyan was going all emo again at Yui’s dying words. It did make me wonder what the hell I was watching for a moment.

Moving on, the festival day is finally here, but Yui is nowhere to be seen.  The club is prepared to go without Yui, although Azunyan still objects (YuixAzunyan epicness).  We get a childhood story from Nodoka when crazy Yui was doing something ridiculous, but was so set on getting it done that she was going overboard.

4yr Old Yui and the sea (or river)

(4yr) Old Yui and the sea (or river)

The above applied age is randomly selected, btw, but we’re talking about kindergarten, so…  In any case, Yui eventually makes her grand appearance.

Yui-senpai cannot be denied.

Melting Azunyan is melting

Melting Azunyan is melting. Yui-senpai knows all her weaknesses.

And there is it, the seal of approval for YuixAzunyan. It's official, people, it's the end...I think all the yuri in this series is done on purpose...

I somehow read that as “make out” but the point is the same apparently.  Azunyan is shy however and prefers to do that later, so she gives an obligatory lover’s slap to Yui and sends her off. So we can anticipate a final MioxRitsu, which leaves Mugi out… Kinda pity…

However, Yui, being Yui, forgot Gitah home.  Well, it’s not really Yui’s fault.  Yui left Gitah in the club but Ui brought it home, and Yui being sick didn’t remember to take it.  Our genius can’t play any other guitar so that’s not an option.  In the end Sawa-chan substitutes Yui until she gets her guitar from home.  We get a mirroring of episode one Yui running with certain, important changes, like her not stumbling, and the guitar lead makes it to the auditorium after the first (?) song.

MOE (snotty but still moe)

MUSIC CLUB YURI FTW!

MUSIC CLUB YURI FTW!

And so it ends… sorta… Well, K-ON is fun in general, but somehow it’s not as fun as the first episodes.  Besides episode 10, which many people bash, the other episodes had their share of emo drama that just doesn’t seem to fit with my earlier conception of K-ON.  The thing is K-ON was successful in being fun without having any sort of teen drama, so I don’t see why they had to inject emo stuff in the last episodes.  This episode didn’t suffer that much from the needless drama, but it just wasn’t the same K-ON.  K-ON seems to have changed to the worse the moment Azunyan is introduced.  Many puns are still there and the yuri is abundant, but, besides episode 10, the latest episodes seem to be plagued more or less by some teen drama issue.  If you’re going to change the feel of the series at some point, you should make it apparent from the start (ie make it obvious in the first third of the series that it’s not just lolz and yuri but it can be a bit more serious, too).  As it is, the planning kinda failed.  It’s not that it wasn’t fun and all that, but it could have been better.  I’d still watch it for the cute fun and all the yuri fanservice again, I suppose.  In that sense, unlike most of KyoAni series I could name that I’m never gonna watch again in part or whole, due to various reason (crappy KEY’s script crappy adaptation minus Air), this one was pretty successful.

As it turns out, it’s not over yet, however.  There’s apparently one extra episode coming out.  What’s in there, I don’t know, but the only finale this episode had is the plotline’s, so I’m still clinging on the hope of more Mugi fanservice.  And no, Yui is still my favorite K-ON girl :p

Mh… I watched K-ON a few days ago. I gotta admit, K-ON changed in it’s period of time, but I didn’t think it was unfitting. If there would have been a love interest, then I’d fucking rage, but like this it was quite okay.

If you didn’t watch it yet… Minami-ke. Very funny slice of life anime. Got quite nice characters. Sadly, season 2 is much weaker than season 1 and season 3 is got better, but it never reaches the awesomeness of season 1. So you might check it out.

I liked all Minami-ke seasons really :p Although in the end, the first one was possibly the funniest.

LOL we all know it’s YuixAzunyan + RitsuxMio now :p I mean, everything but the official stamp is there :p No wait, the official stamp is basically there, we just need confirmation … You can start raging now :ppp

    Oh, well… You’re right… Don’t forgt MugixSawako.

    FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-! D:<

Well, truth be told Mugi is the only one left out and we didn’t get any MugixSawako thing. The things we got were RitsuxYui, YuixAzunyan, RitsuxMio and to a lesser extent YuixUi, along some scarce MioxAzunyan. Sensei was more of a wildcard, appears anywhere, fits really nowhere :p
